Onesteel crew steps up for National clean-up day

Helping to tidy our community

An enthusiastic OneSteel Manufacturing team recently donned the gloves, broke the big bags out and hit the ground running for Clean Up Australia Day.

Clean Up Australia Day was on March 1, but it extends throughout the whole month so the OneSteel Manufacturing (Administrators Appointed) (OneSteel) crew headed out on March 18 to do its bit.

Registering with Clean Up Australia and coordinating with the Whyalla City Council, 12 team members of the Environment, Regulatory & Stakeholder Team targeted the area along the Pellet Plant fenceline to Wilson Park and up to Hummock Hill.

General Manager Environment and Community, Chris Smyth was one of the crew. He said there was plenty to collect including car tyres, glass, fast food containers and general rubbish.

“This is our community and with a little bit of effort for a couple of hours we have helped to clean some of our own doorstep,” Chris said.

“This is the entrance to our town, and it’s good to do our bit to have our boundary look a bit cleaner and tidier.”

The rubbish filled three utes and was taken to the Veolia Waste Transfer Station where Council arranged for all waste from Clean Up efforts to be dumped for free.
