Community support program going strong

2027 first round applications NOW OPEN

OneSteel Manufacturing’s FY26 Community Support Program has come to a successful end, which aligns with the 2027 first round opening, following eight community groups and organisations across Whyalla and the surrounding region receiving funding during the year.

The last round of the FY26 Community Support Program (February 2026) attracted applications from a diverse range of community organisations, with funding awarded to initiatives that deliver tangible benefits for the local community.

General Manager for Sustainability, Regulatory, Environment and Community, Chris Smyth, said the program had a long and proud history of supporting organisations that play an important role across Whyalla.

“The Community Support Program helps local organisations deliver projects, events and services that strengthen our community and provide lasting benefits for local people,” Chris said.

“We’re very pleased to have continued this support throughout FY26.

“This latest round includes a mix of established initiatives and new programs, reflecting the breadth of work being undertaken by amazing community organisations across the region.

“We believe what makes our program particularly impactful is its balanced approach. While financial support is important, it’s also our own people who can also often make a big difference through volunteering and other in-kind contributions to support community groups.”

Chris said local clubs, volunteer groups and community organisations were at the heart of many activities and services that people rely on.

“We are proud to support their efforts and the positive impact they have across Whyalla and surrounding communities.” he said.

Some of the successful recipients from the latest round include:

  • Iron Knob Progress Association
  • Whyalla Hockey Association
  • Whyalla Show Society
  • Whyalla NAIDOC Week Committee
  • Whyalla Aboriginal Youth Centre
  • D’Faces of Youth Arts Inc
  • Nunyara Men’s and Women’s Group
