Taking partnerships to new level
OneSteel engages with nearly 50 companies in Whyalla
The vital partnerships between OneSteel and its vendors were recognised with a special Town Hall event in Whyalla.
The suppliers of services to OneSteel Manufacturing Pty Ltd (Administrators Appointed) (‘OneSteel’) represent multi-million dollar working partnerships essential for the efficient and productive operations of the Whyalla steelworks and iron ore mines.
The inaugural Town Hall held at the Westland Hotel was recognition of the importance of these partnerships with 45 companies in attendance along with the State Government’s Whyalla Regional Coordinator and SA Industry Advocate, John Chapman OAM.
OneSteel’s General Manager Supply Chain, Hayley Perkins, said the event was a huge success, conveying valuable messaging from the business while also generating invaluable feedback and connectivity from service providers.

“It was very well received by those that attended, the feedback was positive, and it was chance for us to really connect and re-connect with those that provide services,” she said.
“The room was filled with enthusiasm with a high level of engagement as we sent a strong message of support and cooperation to our vendors.”
Hayley said the Town Hall reinforced Procurement’s goal to provide the business with suitable suppliers of services to ensure the needs of our operations are met. This can only be achieved through understanding a supplier’s capability and running fair competitive tendering and submission review processes.
“We want to have transparency with everyone we deal with and understand where we need to improve to continue providing a level playing field for all involved,” Hayley said.
“We now have to deliver on our commitments made, and we will have more exciting updates to provide in the next Town Hall event.”
John Chapman said the ‘Town Hall’ style briefing was a great initiative and will go a long way to improving relationships between One Steel and its contractors and suppliers.
“Business is very much about strong relationships to get the best results and I am pleased OneSteel is taking a new path in this regard,” John said.

“I congratulate all involved in this important event and look forward to the next one.”
Hayley praised everyone involved for a ‘very professional event’ with polished presentations and positive engagement.
“This was a proactive step that aims to instill confidence in our suppliers,” she said.
“It does not go unnoticed that this event progressed from idea to reality within a few weeks and has set a high benchmark for future events … this is a testament to the efforts of Bruce Rogers (Senior Category Manager – Services), Rosilie Range (National Sourcing Manager) and the broader procurement team.
“The presentations were excellent, and the presenters were very professional and clear with their messages … congratulations to all involved.”
A separate town hall with suppliers of goods and materials will be arranged before the end of the year.
