ONeSteel granted new environmental licence
5 January 2026
OneSteel was recently granted a new Environmental Licence by the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) after the previous licence under the Whyalla Steel Works Act 1958 expired after its 20-year life.
The new licence authorises OneSteel Manufacturing Pty Ltd (Administrators Appointed) (OneSteel) to continue to conduct 20 prescribed activities of environmental significance (under the Environmental Protection Act 1993) , which if not properly managed could cause harm to the environment.
The new licence was developed over a period of 18 months between OneSteel and the EPA, and allowed both parties to modernise the licence, and introduce more detailed management plans to control impacts.
OneSteel is now working through the implementation phase which includes working closely with operational teams to achieve compliance with the new licence.
