Big impacts from small community actions
2025 highlights from our whyalla engagement
This year reminded us that the most meaningful outcomes often come from simple moments of showing up and lending a hand.
By working at ground level with local groups, volunteers, community partners and families, OneSteel Manufacturing Pty Ltd (Administrators Appointed) (OneSteel) strengthened relationships and gained a deeper understanding of where our support, both financial and in-kind, can make the greatest impact.
From grassroots initiatives to established community programs, OneSteel’s focus has remained on creating opportunities for people in Whyalla and delivering practical assistance where it matters most.

One of the memorable moments of 2025 was taking 100 local children crabbing on the Whyalla Jetty in March (pictured right).
OneSteel financial support provided free nets, buckets and bait, and by rallying additional sponsors, we secured fantastic prizes for the kids as well.
We feel genuinely fortunate to be in a position where OneSteel can contribute meaningfully to the wellbeing, resilience, and vibrancy of the Whyalla community.
What began as simple sponsorship grew into hands-on, in-kind assistance, allowing us to work closely with the Whyalla Sports Fishing Club to deliver an unforgettable day.
With no cost to families, the event was genuinely inclusive. Children in residential care attended, and children with disabilities were supported to participate in whichever way suited them best. The smiles on 100 faces said it all.
OneSteel continued to deepen its partnership with HOPE Whyalla, delivering free activities at community events, and supported the Plaza Youth Centre (PYC) through employee-led fundraising.
When funding gaps emerged for the Whyalla Christmas Relief program, OneSteel teams rallied with fundraiser barbecues (main picture and below right) to help bridge the shortfall and ensure families in need were not left behind. This was in addition to the ongoing assistance provided through the OneSteel Manufacturing Community Support Program, which proudly continues with the backing of administrators KordaMentha.

Across the year, OneSteel people stepped up behind the scenes, supporting community groups when extra hands were needed, helping with the heavy lifting at the Whyalla Show and leveraging our networks to facilitate positive outcomes wherever possible.

The OneSteel partnership with Whyalla Shooting Stars continued to thrive, highlighted by September’s Stars and Steel Day (pictured bottom), which offered tailored steelworks tours and hands-on mining activities for students.
We were proud to support the OneSteel Christmas Pageant as active members of the working group, helping deliver a magical event with an expanded line‑up of community floats. Along with our own Polar Express float, we helped the Shooting Stars to create their float, Wish Upon a Shooting Star, a project brought to life with funding from the HOPE Incentive Program, creative support and logistics from OneSteel Manufacturing and the team at Mission Australia. It stands as a great example of how collaboration delivers real wins for the community.
These initiatives reflect our ongoing commitment to being part of something bigger than ourselves. We feel genuinely fortunate to be in a position where OneSteel can contribute meaningfully to the wellbeing, resilience, and vibrancy of the Whyalla community.
